He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Dotson and Pauline Dotson; and his siblings, Patsy Jackson, Norman Dotson and Frank Dotson.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Dotson; his children, Deborah Wilson, Eddie Dotson (Donna), Mike Dotson (Christine), Joey Dotson and David "Tater" Dotson (Cami); and his sisters, Norma Thompson and Becky Reed.
