He was predeceased by: his parents, Hoyle Carpenter and Ruby Jones Carpenter; his wife Rowann Bailey Carpenter; and his siblings, Bill, Bob Carpenter and Dorothy Carpenter Champion.
He is survived by: his children, Donald Terry Carpenter of Jonas Ridge and Kim Carpenter Newton (Mike) of Forest City; his grandson Trent Newton (Elizabeth); and his great grandchild Charlie Newton of Ellenboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Long Branch Road Baptist Church, 621 Long Branch Road, Forest City, North Carolina 28043.
