She was predeceased by: her parents, James Henry Blalock, Sr. and Julia Rogers Blalock; her husband Clyde Edward Poindexter; and her siblings, James Henry Blalock, Jr., Jack Blalock, Mildred B. Aiken, Mary B. Aiken, Ruby B. Aiken, Beatrice B. Lunsford, Margaret B. Rimmer, Nina B. Trevathan, Esther B. Thompson and Lila Mae Blalock.
She is survived by: her sons, Eddie Gates of Hartsville, SC, Dexter Gates of Caldwell, Tony Gates of Carolina Beach and Terry Gates of Caldwell; and her stepchildren, Kimberly Poindexter Parrott of Roxboro and Adam Poindexter (Lynn) of Roxboro. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
