He was predeceased by: his parent Ossie, Sr. Cunningham; his daughter Johnsie C. Cunningham; and his brothers, Theodore "Ted" and George "Jimmy" Walker. He is survived by: his wife Nadine Cunningham; his daughters, LaRue P. Cunningham of Winston-Salem, NC and Prattsie Cunningham of Durham, NC; his grandchildren, Minister LaDessa E. Cunningham Pearson of Winston-Salem, Adam Cunningham of Orlando, FL and Yared Cunningham of Greensboro, NC; his brother Shelred Cunningham of Durham; his cousin Ella Mae Cunningham of Granville County; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Lawson of Roxboro, NC, Mazel Winston of Washington, DC, Jaynette Lawson-Jordan (Rubin) of Brooklyn, NY, Lawanda Laventure of Durham and Martha Ann Eubanks of Durham. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
