He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Leslie Johnson and Catherine Fox Johnson; his wife Cinda Faye Johnson; and his siblings, Dell Russell "Rusty" Johnson, Hilda Chambers and Virginia Lunsford.
He is survived by: his close friend Janette Duncan; his children, Teresa Chambers (Steven), Tammy Carey (David) and Joe "Peanut" Johnson, Jr. (Christy); and his grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Dalton Johnson, Jessica Smith (Drew), Joshua Holland, Roxie Ashby and Kyle Stone. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
