He was predeceased by: his son Tyrone Chavis; and his father William "Bill" Mason. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Mason; his children, Tenita Mason (LaWanda Mason), Monica Tyree (Eric) of Durham, Jermaine Chavis of Roxboro and Bryant McGhee (Tiffany McGhee) of Durham; his mother Clara Ragland (Napoleon) of Oxford; his siblings, Michael Mason of Massachusetts, Desmond Mason (Katrina) of Roxboro and Denise Mason of Roxboro; his stepsiblings, Halbert Ragland, Clifton Ragland (Regina), Toney Ragland and Labnzzia Crudup (James); his uncles, Samuel Lee of Roxboro and Bernard Mason (Sylvia) of Cary; and his sister-in-law Edith Carey (Tony) of Danville, Virginia. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
