He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father Ashley Simmons; his brother Emerson Simmons of Fairmont, NC; his granddaughter Sarah Grantham; his wife Sylvia "Sue" Simmons; his children, Anita Simmons Grantham Fields of Arden, NC, Lisa Fields (Garrett) of Hendersonville, NC, John Ashley Simmons III (Linda) of Lumberton, NC, Mark Anthony Simmons (Loria) of Lumberton, NC and Terry Lynn Simmons (Brandy) of Lumberton, NC; his stepson Brian Collins; his sister Zelma McGugan (Harry) of Red Springs, NC; and his grandfather John. He was also cherished by 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
