He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ersel Cayton, Sr. and Gertrud "Ruth" Reinheimer Cayton; his former wife Becky Cayton; his siblings, Karen Cayton Boyle, Henry Cayton and Marvin Cayton; his great-nephew Timothy Hobson; and his brother-in-law Jerry McGowan.
He is survived by: his siblings, John Cayton (Sherry) of Elk City, Richard Cayton (Valerie) of Laurel Hill, Joshua Cayton of Wichita, Kansas., Monique Cayton of Maxton, Cathy Locklear (Prentis) and Jessica Chavis (Jason) of Rowland.
