He was predeceased by: his parents, Ned Chavis and Kathleen Hunt Chavis; his brother Billy Dean Chavis; and his grandchildren, Casey Reid Jacobs and Logan Christopher Chavis.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ann Chavis; his children, Christopher Chavis (Vanessa) of Maxton, NC, Pamela Maynor (Dino) of Lumberton, NC and Gloria Ann Jacobs of Laurinburg, NC; his siblings, Samuel Chavis (Margaret) of Rowland, NC, Shelby Seals of Conway, SC, Patricia Hines (Jim) of Indiana, Lucille Jacobs (Gentry) of Red Springs, NC, Willa Chavis of Maxton, NC and Olinda Bullard of Maxton, NC; his grandchildren, Deanna Maynor, Josh Anthony Jacobs and Conner Chavis; and his great grandchild Bella Cummings. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
