He was loved and cherished by many people including: his sister Joyce McCall (James "Junior" McCall) of Pisgah Forest; his adoptive son Samuel Vaughn; his siblings, Ralph, Henry, Gordon, Marion, Paul, Tom, Charles, J. C. "Bub" Whitmire, Ethel Banks, Mae Franks, Elizabeth "Lib" Whitmire and Dorothy "Tinker" Owen; his grandmother Emma Love; and his nephews, Ricky and Mike. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
