He was predeceased by: his father Douglas Thigpen; and his brothers, L. J. Willar and Ray Thigpen. He is survived by: his mother Joan Butts Driver of Dunn; his wife Pella Matthews Thigpen; his children, Summer Thigpen of Lumberton, Madison Thigpen, Logan Thigpen and Tony Thigpen of Roseboro; his sisters, Janie McLamb of Four Oaks and Theresa Hicks of Dunn; and his grandchildren, Johnny Thigpen of Lillington, Heather Thigpen of Alabama, Lucas Thigpen and Haley Thigpen of Roseboro.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
