He is survived by: his wife Inez Evans Johnson; and his children, Thurman E. Johnson and Brenda McKinney. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkersburg Baptist Church Building Fund, 3060 Greens Bridge Road, Garland, NC 28441.
