He was predeceased by: his parents, David Jessup and Rossie Allen Pate Smith; and his brother Franklin Smith. He is survived by: his wife Carol Horne Smith; his daughters, Mary Edwards (Avery) of Beulaville and Sharon Smith Frost (Jimmie) of Autryville; his siblings, Lula Hansen (Eddie) of Raleigh, Julia Hansen (Art) of Clinton, Gaynelle Bryant of Garland, Leslie Smith (Linda) of Garland, Richard Smith (Patricia) of Garland and Lynn Smith (Susan) of Garland; his grandchildren, Brandy Hanson, Jessica Frost, Kristen Frost, Elizabeth Edwards, William Edwards and Chester Hanson; and his great grandchildren, Charlie Hanson, Jonathan O'Boyle and Ronald Hanson.
