He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert B. Melvin, Sr. and Margie King Melvin; and his siblings, Myrtle Melvin and Robert B. Melvin, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Sheila Britt Melvin; his sons, Joseph Allen Melvin, Jr. (Karen Parton Melvin) of Bryson City and Robert Edmund Melvin (Kristen Eudy Melvin) of Leland; his grandchildren, Emma, Athena, Adayah, Ian, Shona, Raven and Ryott; his siblings, Brenda Melvin of Wilmington and Doug Melvin (Doris) of Garland; and his children, Attention and Rocky Point Drive of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Attention: Office of Child Development, 2900 N Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
