He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter J. Johnson and Lulu Register Johnson; and his siblings, Ivey, Betty Lou Jones, Sally Gavin, Walter (Jay), Evelyne Johnson, Ollie Rackley, Nora Parker and Josephine Kennedy.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jones Johnson; his children, Diane Johnson Wilson (Clifton), Ricky Johnson (Donna), Donald Johnson (Lois Thornburg) and Patty Johnson Holloway (Andrea Jones Murzyn); his grandchildren, Liza Wilson Helling (Ian), Sarah Wilson, Matthew Wilson (Mandy), Ashely Johnson, Lindsey Holloway, Aaron Johnson, Joseph Holloway and Ava Johnson; his great grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Wilson; his nephew Scott Spencer; and also, Veronica "Maria", Angelica and Fernando Juarez. He is also survived by other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.

The family will have a private graveside service, due to COVID-19, to be held September 18, 2021 at the Rockfish Cemetery, Wallace, NC.
