He was predeceased by: his parents, Neal Hayes and Martha Jane Bailey Hayes; his wife Catherine Irene Hayes; and his siblings, Mattie Register, Louise Callahan, Joe Hayes, Alex Hayes, Leon Hayes and Eloise Dale.
He is survived by: his brother Luther Hayes (Sherie) of Whiteville; his nieces, Katherine Piner (Allen) of Wallace, Shirley Rackley (John) of Rocky Point and Sylvia Sawyer (Wayne) of Hampstead; and his friend Billy.
