He was predeceased by: his parent Abe Harrison Phelps; and his grandson Deacon Brody Phelps. He is survived by: his parent Audrey Whines Phelps of Roper; his wife Mary Louise Harrell Phelps; his children, Natalie Phelps (Michael) of Roper and Gerald Phelps, II; his wife Valene of Edenton; his siblings, Carol Smith of Roper, Barbara Bateman of Edenton, Gary Phelps and Mike Phelps; his grandchildren, Braxton, Chase, Austin, Courtney, Connor and Bowen; and his great grandchild Blair.
