She was predeceased by: her parents, Abe H. Phelps and Audrey Whines Phelps; and her brother Gerry Phelps. She is survived by: her husband Richard E. Bateman, Sr.; her children, Bobbie Sawyer (Alan) of Edenton, Kristy Craddock (Nick) of Columbia, Chris Phelps (Brenda) of Edenton and Richard Bateman (Melody) of Creswell; and her siblings, Carol Smith, Gary Phelps of Roper and Mike Phelps of Roper. She is also survived by 14 grandkids.
