He was predeceased by: his parent William Frank Harts; his grandparents, Franklin Keith Harts, Amanda Watkins Harts, John Lawton Hancock and Agnes Hooker Hancock; his stepdaughter Nancy Russ Carter; and his nephew Jacob Gareth Harts.
He is survived by: his parent Joy Hancock Harts; his wife Mary Caison Russ Harts; his son John William Harts Jr.; and his siblings, Elleen Harts, Stanley Harold Harts of Rocky Point and Roger Garry Harts of Shallotte. He is also survived by four nephews, two grandnephews and three step grandchildren.
