He was predeceased by: his parents, Simuel Burney Smith and Maggie Tedder Smith; and his siblings, Lilly May (Infant), Jennie Mae Jones, Jimmy Lee and Billy Ray.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Brown Smith; his children, Bobby, Jr. (Nancy) of Rocky Point and Joy Mason (Jerry) of Scotts Hill; his grandchildren, Daniel (Meagan), Hunter (Megan), Noah Smith, Shelby, Gabrielle (Austin) and Briley Mason; his great grandchildren, Alaina, Brantlee, Bayleigh, Drystin and Brooklynn Smith; and his siblings, Sammy (Jan) of Wilmington, Thomas (Ann) of Teachey, Dorothy, Joyce Ezzell (Linwood) of Magnolia, Shirley Cherry of Statesville and Teresa Smith (Noland) of Burgaw. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
