He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Billie" Hardison Dove and Elmyra Sanders Dove Thompson; his wife Jeanette Stancil Dove; his grandparents, Daniel Dove, Sr., Azile Witherspoon Dove, William Leggett House and Jessie Elmyra Southall House; and his son-in-law Harold Truelove.

He is survived by: his children, Lea Ann D. Nichols (Tom) of Red Oak, JoEllen D. Rogers (Tony) of Williamston and William "Billy" H. Dove, II of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Laurel Currie (James), William Rogers and Brandon Rogers; his great grandchild Charlotte Currie; and his brother Henry Allen Thompson.
