He was predeceased by: his parents, John Alvin and Alma Coley; his former wife Jackie Coley; his close friend JoAnne M. Farmer; his siblings, Marvin Ray Coley, Obie Coley and Betty Ann Wester; and his granddaughter Chrislynn Painter.
He is survived by: his children, Pam Rich (Brandon) of Castalia, Wendy Langley of Kansas, John Thomas Coley, Jr. of Rocky Mount and Christie Crabtree (Ricky) of Roxboro; his brother Mark Coley of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Faith, Kadin Rich of Castalia, Amber Byrum (Austin) of Nashville, Lillian "Lilly" Langley of Kansas, Jaden, Isabella Coley and Steven Crabtree; his great grandchildren, Haydin, Addison and Samuel Byrum; and his cousin Mike Coley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and other extended relatives.
