He was predeceased by: his parents, Mack Daniel Simmons and Daisy Bottoms Simmons; his wife Margaret Dickens Simmons; and his siblings, Mack Daniel Simmons Jr., Nell Simmons Speight, Jean Simmons Farmer and Ruth Simmons Cooke.
He is survived by: his children, James Eason (Regina) of Rocky Mount, NC and Amy Ayscue "Buger" (Kenny) of Louisburg, NC; his grandchildren, Travis Ayscue "Peanut", Christian Jones "Littleman", James Eason IV, Andrew Eason and Ashley Eason; and his siblings, Judy Simmons Walston and Omerl Simmons. He is also survived by several great – grandchildren.
