He was predeceased by: his parents, Fannie Ragan Poteat and Carl Stephen Poteat. He is survived by: his wife Vickie Poteat; his children, David Scott Poteat, Jeffrey Wayne Mayhew and Jodie Annette Poteat; and his siblings, Kyle Poteat, Phyllis Trexler and Joanne Lovings. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
