He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Whitley and Ruby King Whitley; his son Dale Wayne Whitley; and his sister Joyce Caulder. He is survived by: his wife Clementine Webb Whitley; his daughter Cynthia Kay Whitley; his grandchildren, Jamie Whitley and Brooke Whitley Hildreth; his great grandchildren, Owen Whitley, Nicklaus Whitley and Noah Hildreth; his daughter-in-law Jackie Whitley; his daughter Donna Johnson; and his siblings, J. C. Whitley, Hubert Whitley, Sammy Whitley, Edith Blake and Jean Hudson. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
