He is survived by: his wife Marie Hooper Carpenter; his children, Allan Carpenter (Shirley) of Aynor, SC, Randall Carpenter (Teresa) of Andrews, NC, Johnny Carpenter (Michelle) of Griffin, GA, Keith Carpenter (Joanna) of Griffin, GA and Claudine Jones (Gary) of Robbinsville, NC; his stepdaughters, Martha Ann McGuire (Les) of Asheville, NC, Jenny Millsaps (Danny) of Robbinsville, NC, Wilma Suttles (Rad) of Maggie Valley, NC and Jackie Kron (Jay) of Robbinsville, NC; and his brother Ozel Carpenter of Blairsville, GA.. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild.
