He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Charlie Birdsong, Sr. and Alice Liles Birdsong; and his wife Mary Helen Wilkerson Birdsong. He is survived by: his daughters, Kristen Birdsong Strickland (Troy Lee Strickland, III) of Roanoke Rapids and Tammy Birdsong Harvey (Greg) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his grandchildren, William Landen Birdsong, Tylen Lee Strickland, Langstone Harvey and Calder Harvey; his siblings, Russell Charlie Birdsong (Judy), Jean Birdsong Thompson of Roanoke Rapids and Beverly Birdsong Turner (Robert) of Roanoke Rapids; and his sisters-in-law, Raye Wilkerson Bailey (Jerry) and Brenda Wilkerson Jenkins. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 1st 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Cedarwood Cemetery (1100 W 4th St, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870).
