She was predeceased by: her parents, J. Donald Lawson and Elizabeth "Betty" Davis Lawson; her husband Melvin Everett Powell, Sr.; and her son Melvin Everett Powell, Jr.. She is survived by: her daughters, Saundra Hill (Mike) of Missouri and Renee Powell of Tennessee; her brothers, Joe Lawson (Nancy) of Florida, John Lawson of California and Christopher Lawson (Tammy) of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Kimberly Brower (Mike) and Joey Hill (Liz); and her great grandchildren, Jared, Noelle, Vera, Autumn Brower, Elias and Malachi Hill. She is also survived by brother-in laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and "honorary" next door great-grandchildren.
