It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Lee Lacks of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, born in Boydton, Virginia, who passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Connie Sipes and Jessie Lee Poteat Sipes; and her brothers-in-law, Clyde Morris and Ernest "Onion" Nichols. She is survived by: her husband Elijah D. Lacks, Sr.; her children, Elijah Daniel "Dannie" Lacks, Jr. and Susan Lacks; her sister Brenda Gupton (Frank); her grandchildren, Erich Lacks (Emily), Brent Lacks (Meagan), Michaela Tanner (Cole) and Elijah Elmore; her great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Ray, Westen and Kenna; and her sisters-in-law, Nancy Morris and Corlis Nichols. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
