She was predeceased by: her mother Lucy Head Trimm; her stepfather Milton Edwin Trimm; her father Miles Curtis Saunders, Sr.; and her brothers, Miles Curtis Saunders, Jr. and Jack Douglas Saunders.
She is survived by: her son Thomas Adkins Merritt, III; her daughter-in-law Marci Dickerson Merritt of Roanoke Rapids; her grandsons, Thomas Adkins Merritt, IV of Key Largo and Douglas Saunders Merritt of Greenville; her boyfriend Steve E. Greene of Henrico; her sisters-in-law, Anna D. Saunders of Henrico and Maria R. "Genie" Saunders of Hartfield; and also Lake Gaston. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family suggests memorials be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
