He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl L. Smith, Sr. and Mildred Sellers Smith; and his siblings, Mary Smith McCardle and Jerry Smith. He is survived by: his daughters, Shelley Lyons Vandyke (Paul) of Amity, OR, Liana Smith McLaughlin of Weldon, Evy Smith Curl (Michael) of Vancouver, WA and Ettina Smith Jordan (Jamie); his stepdaughter Alexandra Vanek; his stepgrandchildren, Misha and Manou Aymar of France; his brother Gaines S. Smith (Gaye) of Jacksonville; his brother-in-law T. W. McCardle of Birmingham; and his close friends, Howard, Debbie Wasdin Fernandina, Phillip H. Myers of Virginia Beach, Charles Wyatt of Poway, CA, Donna Dodson of Mebane, NC and Bruce Robistow (Kathy) of Roanoke Rapids. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
