He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Joseph Whalen and Catherine MacNeil; his brother Michael Whalen; his stepdaughter Sylvia Williams; and his stepgrandsons, Christopher and Jonathan Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Whalen; his siblings, Richard Whalen (Valerie) of Sackville, Joseph Whalen (Belinda) of Bass River, N. S., Eilleen Leblanc (Ernie) of Sydney Mines, N. S., Paulette Moore (Alex) of North Sydney, N. S. and Bernadette Whalen of Toronto, Ontario; his siblings-in-law, Alice Williams (Mike) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Leroy "Sam" Sykes (Suzanne) of Utah; his daughters, Christina Parks (Cyril) of North Sydney, N. S., Kimberly Whalen of Halifax, N. S. and Angela Whalen of Sydney Mines, N. S.; his stepchildren, Laura Spatorico (Mike), Samantha Pittman and Thomas Pittman of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his grandchildren, Brianna Parks, Dylan Parks, Karsyn Whalen (Alyssa), Casey Whalen, Dillon Williams (Riba), Logan Williams (Allie), Melinda Jones, Abigail Cox (Brian), Madalyn Spatorico and Garrett Spatorico; and his great grandchildren, Paisley Parks, Elijah Smith-Parks and Jayceon Jones. He is also survived by his family and friends.
COVID halted his travel for a little while, but on his last trip in 2023, he was able to spend a month in Canada and made many memories with his family.
