It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Velma Graves Garrett (Reidsville, North Carolina), who passed away on April 30, 2023, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Savannah Richmond Graves and Joseph Graves; her husband Frederick Garrett; and her sister Leatha Mae Turner. She is survived by: her siblings, Ashby Graves, James Graves, Joseph Graves, Walter Norris Graves, William Graves, Althea Turner, Beatrice Blackwell and Olivia Howard; her children, Gwendolyn Ware and Alfred Melvin Garrett; her grandsons, Troy Ware and Miles Ware (Nia); her great grandchildren, Ameera Ware, Lauren Ware, Sydney Ware, Avery Ware and Karter Ware; her sister Helen Graves; and her sister-in-law Mary S. Graves. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
