He was predeceased by: his parents, Algernon Stanford and Marjorie Currin Noell; and his brother Algernon Stanford Noell, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Ann Marie Nelson Noell; his son John William "Jay" Noell II (Anna) of Conover; his sister Catherine N. Medlin of Durham; and his grandchildren, William Gabriel Noell and Ava Grace Noell.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Mt Carmel Global Methodist Church (361 Mt Carmel Church Rd, Reidsville, NC 27320). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
