He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Dawson and Dewey Dawson; and his sister Juanita Huffman. He is survived by: his pet Rosebud; his wife Sandra Dawson; his siblings, Raven Dawson (Barbara) and Caroleda Isley (Tony); his daughters, Karen Chilton (Joe), Barbara Wright (Luey) and Jennifer Bryan (Ben); his grandchildren, Macey Durham Hundley (William), C. J. Swanson, Michael Dawson, Kaleb Durham, Matthew Swanson, Emily Hodges, Abigail Skelton and Ben Bryan; his great grandchildren, Michael Hundley, Blane Hundley, Barrett Hundley and Kyser Swanson; and his close friends, Larry Jackson, Donnie Coleman, Charlie Loftis and Tommy McKinney.
