He was predeceased by: his parents, Mazie Melvin and Hardin Brown, Sr.; his son James Melvin, Jr. of Fayetteville; his stepmother Annie Pearl Brown; and his siblings, George Melvin, Colin Ross, John McLean, Ronnie Wade, Michael Ross, Terry Brown and Mary Price.
He is survived by: his children, Billi Jean Lester of Red Springs, Ta'Shae Ferguson of Red Springs and Shakina Richardson of Red Springs; and his siblings, Richard Melvin (Pattie) of Charlotte, Frances Henderson (Edward) of Red Springs, Bert Hutchinson (Virgil) of Maxton and Annie Brown. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
