He is survived by: his wife Dorotha Locklear Chavis; his children, Craig Allen Chavis (Janie Penix) of Kentucky and Sylvia Chavis Huggins (Charles) of Red Springs; his sister Helen Jones of Pembroke; his grandchildren, Amber Locklear (Christopher), Brooke Huggins and Craig Allen Chavis Jr.; and his great grandchild Madelyn Locklear.
