He is survived by: his wife Deborah Joy Cates; his children, Anna Cates Williams of Cedar Grove, NC, Emily Dare Cates of Whitsett, NC and Evan Thomas Cates of Randleman, NC.; his siblings, Richard Cates, Jacqueline Rimmer of Person County, NC. and Marie Cates of Person County, NC.; and his grandchildren, Ada Williams, Wyatt Cates and Archer Cates.
