He was predeceased by: his parents, Cammie E. Stanton and Winnie Belle Davis Stanton; his son-in-law Eddie Sawyer; his sisters, Frances York, Emma Lee Prevo and Kathleen "Bill" Hooker; and his brother-in-law Michael Childress.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Garrett Stanton; his daughter Teresa S. Sawyer of Randleman, NC; his grandchildren, Brandon Sawyer (Cassie) and Savannah Sawyer; his great grandchildren, Sawyer McCollum, Hallie, Sophie, Stella and Jake Sawyer; his sisters-in-law, Linda Duncan and Teresa Childress; and also Ashley McCollum (Jacob).
