He was predeceased by: his parents, William Garner and Barbara Presnell Garner; his siblings, Brenda Trivett and Larry Clyde Garner; his niece Gracie Harris; his nephew Miles Allison; and his father-in-law James Ritter.
He is survived by: his wife Robin Ritter Garner; his daughter Melanie Amber Garner; his sisters, Lisa Garner of Sophia and Sherry Garner of Asheboro; his mother-in-law Lois Ritter of Ramseur; and his siblings-in-law, Wesley Ritter (Bobbie) of Ramseur and Julie Harris (Michael) of Carthage.
