He was predeceased by: his son Phillip Ray Chavis; his parents, John Lewis and Abney Thomas Currin; and his sister Judy Davis. He is survived by: his wife Anna Jane Locklear Currin; his children, Sarah York (Tim) of Siler City, Amanda Chavis of Randleman, Kim Chavis of Ramseur, Melisa Chavis Graham of Ramseur, J. D. Currin (Angie) of Asheboro and Dustin Chavis (Meshia) of Ramseur; and his brother Kinchum Currin of Sophia. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.
