She was predeceased by: her parents, Al Van and Sarah Carter Sykes; and her siblings, Kezia Griffin, Jessie Johnson, Marjorie White, Elsie DiBenedetto, Ida Sykes, Mary Wood, Alvin Lee Sykes, Quesnel Sykes, Rev. John Sykes and Charles Sykes.
She is survived by: her husband Don Ledford; her sons, Don Ledford II (Elizabeth) and Mike Ledford (Tamara); her grandchildren, Hannah Ledford, Grace Ledford, Ryan Ledford, Luke Ledford and Sarah Ledford; and her siblings, D. B. Sykes, Jimmie Sykes and Shirley Jackson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Susie's wishes were for memorials made to Bay Leaf Baptist Church for Missions: 12200 Bay Leaf Baptist Church Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614.
