He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Upchurch and Vera Upchurch; and his brothers, Homer Graham, Robert Vaden and John Edgar.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Ruth Robbins Upchurch; his children, Ernest Daniel Upchurch of Raleigh, Vickie Ruth Bredbenner (Hal) of Raleigh, Vera Catherine Dickerson (Johnny) of Wake Forest and James Roy Upchurch (Wendy) of Willow Spring; and his grandchildren, Carrie Hill, Meagan Seymour, Jason Dickerson, Brandon Upchurch, Catherine Leal, Amanda Sutton, Robyn Wilson, Matthew Dickerson, Nicholas Upchurch and Hunter Dickerson. He is also survived by twenty great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home (831 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC 27604). A funeral service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home - Raleigh Chapel (831 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC 27604).
