He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Ellington Rackley; his parents, Ruth Ellen New Rackley and Charlie H. Rackley; his siblings, Irvin Rackley, Frances Corbett, Hayden Rackley, Dennis Rackley, Esther Thompson and Russell Rackley; his children, Alvis E. "Gene" Rackley Jr. (Lynne) of Greenville, NC and Barbara Rackley of Raleigh, NC; and his grandchildren, Joseph N. Matthews, Jr. (Meg) of Raleigh, NC and Sabrina St. Pierre (Kevin) of Myrtle Beach, SC..
He is survived by: his siblings, Wade Rackley of Charlotte, NC, Elise Grimmer of Charlotte, NC and Michael Rackley of Galax, VA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at the Aversboro Baptist Church (1600 Aversboro Rd, Garner, NC 27529). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
