It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Peggy Monroe Gillis (Raeford, North Carolina), born in Saint Pauls, North Carolina, who passed away on August 21, 2023, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Leroy and Minnie Lindsay Monroe; her husband Harold Leon Gillis; her siblings, Omelia Monroe and Roy Lindsay Monroe; and her nephew Jeff Monroe.
She is survived by: her children, Dr. H. L. Gillis Jr. (Lee) and Susan Gillis Bailey of Morehead City, NC; her granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Gillis of New York City, NY; her nieces, Joyce Monroe Goza and Joan Gillis Baker; and her friend Sarah Louise McNeill of St. Pauls, NC.. She is also survived by 10 great nieces and nephews, and 9 great-great nieces and nephews and special family members.
