He was predeceased by: his father Neill A. McDonald, Jr.; his wife Harriett S. McDonald; his son Neill Angus McDonald IV (Mackie); and his pet Fiona. He is survived by: his daughter Mary Emily McDonald of Raeford; his goddaughter Betty Blue of Raeford; his sister-in-law Melinda Smith of Pinehurst; his nieces, Kimberly S. Gardner (Keith) of Fayetteville and Elizabeth S. Moynahan (Will) of Lexington, KY; and his close friend Margaret S. Hathaway (Neill).
In Lieu of flowers, Neill and Mary Emily discussed which organizations, charities, etc., that he wanted memorials to go to, and they are: Antioch Presbyterian Church, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
