He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Lee Thornton and Edna Royster Simmons; his daughter Cindy Myers; and his sisters, Edith Frank, Lucy Johnson, Doris Kegley and Macey Laleman.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Tolley Thornton; his children, Herman Wayne Thornton, Jr. (Kathy) of Johnson City, TN and DeeDee Crews (Jason) of Leasburg, NC; his grandchildren, Derek Myers (Erica), Dustin Myers (Patricia), Paige Thornton, Taylor Winkles (Jonathan), Katie Carter (Chris) and Jessye Davis (Lee); his great grandchildren, Jake Allen Carter, Aurora Myers and Troy Davis; his sister Hazel Miller (Clyde); and his son-in-law Doug Myers. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
