He was predeceased by: his parents, Elra Ivey and Essie Britt Ivey; and his siblings, Lacey Ivey, Charles R. Ivey, Sarah Ivey Barfield and Genevieve Ivey Floyd.

He is survived by: his wife Virginia Nance Ivey; his sons, Steven Ivey of Proctorville, NC, Hal Dixon Ivey, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Johnnie Daniels (Elaine) of Corpus Christy, TX; his siblings, James Ivey of Orrum, NC, Eutice Ivey of Kernsville, NC and Rose Ivey Callahan of Orrum, NC; and his grandsons, Nicholas Christian-Hal Ivey, Derrick A. Bailey, Allen Piner, Christopher Piner and Richard Piner.
