He was predeceased by: his parents, George William "Bill" Hartley and Inez Watkins Hartley; and his mother-in-law Lynda Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Annette Thompson Hartley; his sons, Terry L. Hartley II and Nicholas Adam Hartley; his grandsons, Liam Hartley, Jacob Hartley and Joshua Hartley; his brother Steve Hartley (Claudia Massaro); and his father-in-law Rev. Dan Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to the Gideons International.
