He was predeceased by: his father Joe Luby Benton, Jr.; his wife Faye Young Benton; his sisters, Adell Jones and JoAnn Barfield; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Lynch, James Thornton and Randall Barfield.
He is survived by: his children, Duane Benton (Tina) of Smithfield, Amy Benton (Leah) of Princeton and Sharma Rains (Tim) of Goldsboro; his siblings, Donald Benton of Lillington, Tommy Benton of Clayton, Georgia Thornton of Goldsboro, Bertha Lynch of Cibolo and Betty Ross (George) of Denver, Colorado; his grandchildren, Elaine Howell, Keaton Helms, Wil Helms, Nicole McGill and Nicholas Gladden; and his great grandchildren, Ethan, Sophia and Charlie McGill.
Although flowers are welcome, the family suggest contributions to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
